The vidoe "Growing Up Online" directed by Rachel Dretzin and John Maggio shows how the internet and media is influencing children. The internet has become a place where teens can express themselves and be completly free of their parents. For example, a girl named Jessica Hunter, outcasted at school and had trouble making friends, found a way to feel good about herself by posting provocative images on the internet under the name Autumn Edows. Quickly she went from a nobody to, what she felt like, a famous person with hundreds of online friends. As well as giving a teen an outlet to feel good about themselves their are also instances with oppostie effects called "Cyber Bullying". In the video a boy named Ryan Halligan was being bullied online and at school which eventually lead to him commiting suicide. What kids aren't fining in their lives they have the ability to on the internet. These things can be anything that reinforces how they feel. With Ryan, being very depressed, went and found a cite where he could talk to other kids his age who were depressed and discussed good ways to kill yourself. The internet exposes children to a worl of media that parents, for the most part, are not even aware of.
