Ad Analysis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieSzsh4hJWI

In this Coca Cola commercial, it shows that amidst all of the chaos of life, something good can always come out of it as long as you show a little love. Showing this sort of love just happens to start by giving some random person a bottle of Coke. At the start of the ad it shows a man driving around through a city where many bad things happen, and it seems as though he is not helping the situation. He then stops at a convenience store, as he enters the store the clerk thinks that he is going to be robbed, but then the man unexpectedly pays for the beverage. After taking a drink he starts doing many other random acts of kindness like giving money to the poor and returning an elderly woman's stolen purse. This commercial show that he started doing a lot of good deeds all because of a Coke. The message in the ad is that if you give a little love, it all comes back to you.
This ad is trying to show that our world is a mess, and many people want to fix this mess that we are in. Coke is theoretically providing a solution for this problem. They are trying to show that by sharing a drink, the whole world can put aside their differences and get along with one another. Another thing this ad is showing us is that if you give a little love to the world, it will be truly gratifying within yourself. This so called love that they are talking about is a bottle of Coke. It tells us that it is important that we are able to live with ourselves.
Some of the strong points that the ad company uses in this commercial are; the fact that the whole game is based on a video game because much of today's society is familiar with the gaming world. Especially the similar game connected with this commercial, this is actually quite the opposite of real game, instead of stealing and doing bad things, the commercial shows theft prevention and other good things. Another point in the game would be the fact that the background of the game looks like the cities of today; it is actually a very real commercial.

  1. The audio component of the text influences your reading because its in the form of a video game at the beggining, displaying action, which catches people's eye. Also, the music gets the main idea across, which could be "love is coke". We don't think that any people are left out in this ad, because it targets most all age groups, and we think they do this on purpose, so everyone can get an understanding of it.

  2. One thing I would add is the idea that the possibility drinking one bottle of Coca-Cola product can turn the entire city into a utopian environment within this video game, from a dingy ghetto to an upscale neighborhood. The Coke admakes us believe that we can happiness in our everyday is a myth that this seeks to perpetrate. The guy in the leather jacket that we see at the start of the video looks like a shady character, and the other people in the video treat him as a mobster until he starts putting out fires, giving bundles of money to street musicians, and transforming the city for the better; but because he looks like a gangster does not necessarily make him as such.
Especially with the presence of soda. The video makes it look like the city would normally expect the protagonist of the ad to be shooting and robbing the poor inhabitants, but it goes contrary to this ideology. Some of the negative aspects in particular are avoided are the criminal elements that are normally associated with a video game like the one in which this is based. An old woman, a kid, a hobo, and a policeman are all characters who would normally not grace the same scene together, but the video strives to make us believe that they are not all mutually exclusive, and attempts to reinforce that we can all live in peace and happiness as long as we chug some coca-cola. The upper-class is a notable exclusion to this theme, perhaps indicating that they are exempt from the benefits of cola.
All you need is a little love and a ton of coca-cola to turn a city from a dump to a paradise according to the video.
With the presentation within a normally excessively violent and grim video game, this video tries to make us think that in order to make things all better, all we need are soft drinks.
