Michael Wesh - a vision of students today

Michael Welsch published a video 2 years ago showing us how technology is affecting students lives today. It mostly shows that students spend more time on the computer writing homepages, chatting on Facebook rather than listening to the teacher or reading books.

My own view is that students don't feel most school work is relevant to their lives. Instead of studying, they use other applications in class.

  1. I agree with the fact that students dont feel that most school work is relevant to their lives. I find myself questioning this a lot when I am doing school work and sometimes I wonder why I even bother to waste my time doing things that I don't think will ever apply to my life. I too am guilty of using other applications instead of doing things that I should be doing. But thats just how things are in today's society. Time's are changing and I think it's time that education catches up with technology of today.

  2. Caro reminds us that since most school work isn't relevevant to student's life, that they aren't as eager to participate in school, unless it is relevant or something they can familiarize. I agree that it is much harder to perform tasks in school, especially writing, when you don't like the topic, or don't really have anything to relate to. Though I do question what students wonder when they don't feel like paying attention to the subject when they don't like it, because obviously you wont like every topic or subject you have to participate in.
