The essay by Robert Scholes addresses how video is affecting the fundamentals of our culture and why it has done so. What once was thought to be the best way of communication is now regarded differently because of what video has done. In the past expression and communication were put to use on a cultural level through say a moving poem in ancient cultures or a really good book in the 18th century. Not to say that these methods are not effective because they are, the difference now that has made them less crucial to our culture is because of our need for speed and efficiency. Through video one can express ideas and invoke emotions that would take a book a very long time to do where as the video could get the job done in a very small fraction of that time. I think that the reason why video has shaped our culture is because of that need for speed by which we must get our ideas across quick to make room for what is necessary today.
