Acording to the studies of Michael Wesch, students are increasing the amount of time that they use modern technology in, and out of class. This is creating a need for that technology, students are paying less attention to the teacher and more attention to their laptop or cell phone. These studies also show that students are questioning whether or not anything they learn is class will pertain to real life situations.
I agree with Wesch, students are becoming so dependent on this technology that they can't even pay attention in class. They are to busy texting their friends or surfing the web on their laptop, students are having way to hard a time trying to put the life on hold just for a class. If students aren't truely paying attention to the learning at had, are they actually learing anything.
On the other hand, I also agree with the students. How many concepts do we learn in class that will actually help us in the real world. We learn so much unessesary baggage, are we going to be successful in life?

As I read this, I agree with most of the points being made. I agree that students are having a hard time stopping the outside world to focus on a class, that they maybe are not getting too much out of. I strongly agree with the fact that we learn unessesary baggage. Some things I am taught in my classes I feel I will never use again. For example, in math class more than half the stuff I am being taught I will never use in my daily life, and if I'm not getting it in class I am given a low grade that I really don't deserve. I think schools need to come to terms that times are changing and its time they change with the times.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you and can see it from both sides like you can. its a hard thing for students to listen in class becasue of the fact that school work is not relevant to us, and will never help us in the real world. I notice that on a first hand basis everyday. Students definantley need a new way to learn and stay focused in class without the distractions of technology and other things.
ReplyDeletethe ( i say ) portion of this summary (done by a student) of Wichael Wesch's video, expresses his agreement with Wesch. making clear to us what he believes or where he believes technology is going, making notes of students not learning in class due to technology. making it said its hard for students to focus in class.
