Blog Post Summary

Dillon Alexander

In the Clive Thompson article he suggests many things all of which seem to be true about writing among kids today. In the beggining of the article he talks about how many people think that kids are becoming illeterate more then ever, and the reason for it is technology. Texting, and social networking seem to be the major blame for people believing this which I can see people wanting to blame something on these things because of the fact that we are using them more then anything but its just not true texting doesnt affect the way i write one bit and I dont think it affects the way other people write either. People are always blaming new technology for everything when it is very evident to me that technology is the thing that is making life easier and more convient.

After Clive Thompson summarizes what some people are saying about technology he then moves onto how this lady named Andera Lunsford did a study called the Stanford study of writing in which she discovered some very important facts about how we write. the huge fact that stood out to me was that she found no evidence in the students writing that was in the study, of texting speak. this fact really shows me that there is no problem with texting it does not mess with your writing in fact texting just helps you to write more then you ever have in your life as the article also points out. This article also points out the fact that students need a purpose to their writng they really need a reason to write and an audiecnce to write for, if they dont have an audience or a purpose to their writing then they are not motivated to write or to pay attention in school which is a very important topic. I believe that Clive Thompson has some really good points in his article.

Clive Thompsons assumptions relate to the general idea of technology in the way that you wouldnt expect he says that techonolgy is casusing a literacy revolution, while others are saying that technology is doing the exact opposite of that. i think Clive Thompson has it write on the money taking it from someone who is a major contributor to the technology, i believe it has no effect 0n us at all because of the fact that it only helps us write more, and as that study said texting was not seen in any of the writing. those are some of the main points that i believe need to be brought up in this clive thompson article. i also really enjoyed this article and thought that it really made me think
